Today my dad, his girlfriend, and I spent the day and part of the evening at the Florida Strawberry Festival in Plant City, FL. We had a great time and I could tell my meds are really helping me to see life in a new way. And the new way I am seeing life is a good one.
One of the events we went to was the lumberjack show. They gave away a number of prizes. My dad won a Home Depot baseball cap for having "the sexiest bald head of any guy at the show".
Unfortunately, his pot-bellied pig didn't do so well in the pig race, finishing 3rd after appearing to pull away from the pack. He stopped just shy of the finish line to eat some feed and was beaten by two other hogs.
Some days are like that. You win a hat for having a sexy bald head, but your pig comes up short in the big race.
And you move on to the next day.
Dad really enjoyed the Kenny Rodgers concert, but for me, the best music I heard was a group called Runa Pacha Wind Rhythms. They were incredible. You really should click on their name and check them out.
I really enjoyed the "Friendship Dance". We danced for sheer joy and fellowship together to First People rhythms from North America and Peru.
Awesome.
Here's a video of them from the Strawberry Festival in 2008:
The best thing that happened today was when I got home and read my Twitter timeline. I had a message from my daughter, letting me know how much she loved and missed her grandfather. I passed the message on to him via phone.
My daughter is in college, is an amazing softball player, and is studying to become a teacher. I love her so much and miss her even more. Our relationship was severely strained and nearly broken by the effects of my Bipolar Disorder. I have prayed and hoped every day that we could get back in communication and renew our relationship. I hadn't heard from her in over 6 months.
That's not her fault, it's mine. I thank God for her message. I thank God for her every day of my life.
I love you, Sara Bear...and I'm getting better, each and every day.
I love you....so very, very much.
You are my Wonderful.

Don't apologize for talking about your daughter! I am glad you are in a better relationship with her now :-) Every parent ought to be proud of their kids! Or at least loving them for who they are.
ReplyDeleteThe RPWR band is nice, too. I like that kind of world music. Thanks! @askthesheep
Every daughter needs her daddy. You are there and she knows it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for both of nice encouraging comments. My daughter rocks!
ReplyDeleteI love the line "You win a hat for having a sexy bald head, but your pig comes up short in the big race." Isn't that life in a nutshell?
ReplyDeleteI'm eating strawberries from Lakeland this morning...
Thank you. You know, the funny thing is...I ate funnel cake, polish sausage, french fries, & a smoked turkey leg...but I don't think I ate a single strawberry! I wonder how that happened?!
